Richtlinie für gesponserte Inhalte

What is sponsored content and how does Weltanalyse label it?

Sponsored content is material that has been paid for by a third party – typically a company, organisation or public body – and published on Weltanalyse (weltanalyse.de) under an agreement that is clearly disclosed to readers. Every sponsored article carries a visible label, such as “Sponsored” or “Sponsored Content”, positioned at the top of the page directly beneath the headline, and is also flagged in article listings and social‑media previews. The label may be accompanied by a short note identifying the sponsor. No content that has been commissioned or influenced by a paying partner may appear without this disclosure. Readers can always tell whether a piece of information has been funded externally because the distinction is explicit, never hidden in fine print or ambiguous phrasing.

The labelling standard applies across all formats – including articles, videos, infographics, newsletters and sponsored sections – regardless of the device or platform on which the content is viewed. Weltanalyse’s editorial team, led by Chefredaktör David Schuster and Redaktionschef Daniela Sommer, maintains a record of every sponsored publication and conducts periodic audits to ensure compliance with this policy. If a label is accidentally omitted, a correction is issued and the article is retro‑fitted with the required disclosure.

How is sponsored content different from affiliate links?

Sponsored content is paid for by a partner in advance and is produced, reviewed and fact‑checked by Weltanalyse’s journalists before publication, just like any other editorial piece. Affiliate links, by contrast, are a performance‑based commercial tool: when a reader clicks an affiliate link and makes a purchase, Weltanalyse receives a small commission from the retailer. These links are disclosed separately in the Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and are never embedded in sponsored content. A sponsored article may contain affiliate links, but if it does, the affiliate‑link disclosure is shown alongside the sponsored label, and the partner cannot influence which links are included. The two commercial mechanisms are kept distinct in both policy and practice.

For example, an affiliate‑link disclosure typically reads “This article contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy through them.” That sentence would appear below or beside the sponsored label, never replacing it. Monika Fischer, Wirtschaftreporter, and Stefanie Lang, Ansvarig för faktagranskning, check that the two disclosures do not conflict or mislead readers. The overarching principle is that any form of commercial arrangement must be transparent and separately identified.

What rules govern the creation of sponsored content?

All sponsored content on Weltanalyse must meet the same editorial standards that apply to any news article: it is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, fact‑checked and approved by a human editor before publication. The sponsor may propose a topic, provide background material or suggest interview partners, but the final angle, wording, headline and any accompanying visuals are decided solely by the editorial team. Sponsors never receive a draft for approval, nor do they have veto power over content. Weltanalyse’s Editorial Policy makes clear that the newsroom retains full control over every piece that appears under the weltanalyse.de domain.

Paid material is also subject to the same fact‑checking process managed by Stefanie Lang, and to the same correction and complaints procedures outlined in the Corrections Policy and Complaints Procedure. If a factual error is found in a sponsored article, it is corrected with the same transparency as any other piece. The sponsor cannot demand that a correction be withheld or that content be removed unless it violates copyright or defamation law – and those requests are handled by the legal team via legal@weltanalyse.de.

What you can expect from us

Readers can expect that every piece of sponsored content on Weltanalyse is clearly and visibly marked, produced by the same journalists who write all other content, and never influenced by the sponsor in a way that would misrepresent facts or omit relevant context. Sponsors understand that their commercial relationship with Hafenstadt Media Limited does not grant them any editorial authority. The same named authors, editors and fact‑checkers who stand behind our unsponsored journalism stand behind paid content. If a sponsor attempts to push material that Weltanalyse’s editors consider misleading or unsuitable, the collaboration does not proceed.

This policy is part of a broader commitment to transparency that is also reflected in our Ownership & Funding page, which details how Hafenstadt Media Limited funds the site, and in our AI & Automation Policy, which governs the use of digital tools in content creation. No sponsored content is generated or edited solely by automated systems; human editorial judgement is the final gatekeeper in every case.

How can I inquire about sponsoring content on Weltanalyse?

Organisations interested in sponsoring content should write to sponsored@weltanalyse.de. The partnerships team, which operates independently from the newsroom, will respond with information about available formats, pricing, audience demographics and editorial guidelines. All proposals are evaluated against the criteria set out in this policy and in the Contact page. A partnership is only confirmed after a written agreement is signed that explicitly confirms the sponsor’s acceptance of these rules and Weltanalyse’s editorial independence.

Weltanalyse does not accept sponsored content from political parties, religious organisations that engage in proselytisation, or entities that are the subject of active investigations by Swedish or EU regulators. The same restrictions apply to all commercial collaborations. The partnerships team can be reached at the email above or by phone through the main switchboard +356 2779 4550 (Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 CET).
